Jesus said to his disciples:
<John 13:34-35 MSG >
34 "Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. 35 This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples--when they see the love you have for each other."
Jesus is telling us that by loving each other we will show the world the love that He has for us. REAL love not superficial or romantic love but "agape" love the kind of love that has no strings attached. We are to be "ambassadors" for Christ to the world. The Word tells us in Matthew 29:19-20:
(NIV)
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
(MSG)
19 Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 20 Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age."
As Christians we are to (simply put) make other Christians. An easy way for us to do this is to live a life that sets an example to others of what it is to be a Christian. If you live a Christ like life others will take notice and it will give you an opportunity to touch another life and follow God's commandment.
